July 11th- Ride to Tulsa, OK to Synagogue Congregation B’nai Emunah

The next stop on my shlep was to an unusual deli, located inside B’nai Emuna, a Tulsa synagogue. The plan was to have an early dinner with several friends.

Rabbi Dan Kaiman, the rabbi of the 500-member synagogue, created the deli inside the building because Tulsa didn’t have a deli. The synagogue members decided it would be a wonderful idea for the members to be able to get together once a month and eat a real Jewish deli dinner together. They cook all their own corned beef, pastrami, bread and other foods. I had the pastrami and it so good that I finished the entire sandwich. A friend’s brother and girlfriend showed up for the Schlep and we had a nice quiet dinner together playing “Jewish geography”.

I left Tulsa around 6 PM, right after dinner because I needed to be in Overland Park, KS by 11:30AM the following day to have lunch at the D’Bronx deli. I was also meeting Bruce Ente there, another Jewish motorcyclist who I had met in Cleveland at the beginning of my trip. I made it half way to Overland Park and stopped in Pittsburg, KS for the night.
